The 2016 Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce Clambake was a phenomenal event. Approximately 800 members enjoyed a delicious spread put together by Chef Ken, the executive chef at Hollywood Casino. The weather was beautiful and the view of the river was spectacular. The event is a wonderful opportunity each year for our members to connect with one another and enjoy an evening out. This year's event was presented by PNC and hosted by Hollywood Casino.

By: Mary Taylor, Lieutenant Governor of Ohio ![]() Before taking office in 2011, it was already clear to Governor John Kasich and Lt. Governor Mary Taylor that Ohio needed a new culture to address the bureaucratic red tape that had been a key obstacle for businesses looking to grow and expand in Ohio. The solution was the Common Sense Initiative (CSI). Led by Lt. Governor Taylor, CSI has been a main driver of the Administration’s regulatory reform efforts. Any regulations from the state’s executive agencies, departments, boards, or commissions that adversely impact business must be sent to CSI for review. By the end of 2015, CSI had reviewed nearly 8,000 business-impacting rules, with 59 percent of them either amended or rescinded. By: Kimberly Kaufman, Executive Director, Black Swamp Bird Observatory Since the inception of The Biggest Week In American Birding in 2010, more people in this region are aware of birds and birding than ever before. For those who haven’t given it much thought (or are still operating under the notion that all birdwatching is just for the Jane Hathaways of the world), it’s time to consider the benefits of birds and birding. Birds enhance the quality of our lives in myriad ways, and birding tourism is providing our area with a much-needed economic “shot in the arm” in early spring. Here are just a few reasons to consider expanding your interest in and knowledge of birds and birding.
Birds Mean Business From the end of April to mid-May, more than 90,000 birders visit our area to take in this astounding migration spectacle. 2016 EPIC Toledo T-Town Dash

By: Colleen Kardasz, Director, [email protected]Ohio SBDC Export Assistance Network ![]() Whether you’ve only heard the term Brexit from Twitter, or late-night comedy shows, or if your company trades heavily across Europe, it has been difficult to avoid the Brexit debate and analysis as the world tries to understand the long-standing consequences to the United Kingdom voting to leave the European Union. Whether this decision is a long-anticipated response to changing world politics or a foreshadowing of future changes, the market fluctuations alone make Brexit an important issue for companies around the world who do or will export to Europe. With the announcement that a new Prime Minister, Theresa May, will be in place this week[1], the world is wondering how quickly other changes could occur. The number of issues that must be resolved if and when the UK actually exits the European Union is staggering, and the list will surely grow as time goes on.[2] Given that it’s been only a few weeks since the historic vote happened, the answer to most questions surrounding Brexit is, we don’t know. By: Emily Dammeyer, Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce Tom Keller, founder of Keller Trucking, began his lifelong career in the logistics industry as a young boy delivering watermelons to neighboring states from the family farm. In 1978, with more experience under his belt, he refused to be brought down by the recession and took advantage of an opportunity to grow his company in Defiance, Ohio. While in Defiance, OH Tom was able to recruit his nephew and Godson, Bryan Keller, to help out during the summer months. One thing led to another and Bryan is now the CEO of Keller Logistics Group. Over time, Keller Trucking has diversified to meet local needs and is called the Keller Logistics Group, which includes trucking, warehousing and distribution, freight solutions and packaging services. In addition to logistics, Keller has developed an outreach program that specifically assists local veterans and donates resources to a number of non-profits across the world. They just opened their newest location in June and we are excited to welcome them to the Chamber community!
