In June the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce held its Chamber U event on the topic of building and zoning permit processes. This was a forum aimed at helping local businesses better understand these processes and how to avoid project delays or other issues. Conversations on property development and zoning are a part of the Institute for Leadership & Advocacy’s sessions on economic development and planning sustainable communities, and graduates were invited to attend the forum.
The discussion included a panel of building inspection and zoning officials from local departments who answered questions and covered topics such as permit processing timelines, common issues delaying permit issuance, and improvements underway to improve service. Panel participants included Steven Shrake, City of Toledo Chief Building Official; David Golis, Lucas County Chief Building Official; and Jim Gilmore, City of Oregon Building & Zoning Commissioner. Founded: 1998 Location: 5949 American Road East, Toledo GEO: North Websites: pdbinc.com | pdbcorrugated.com Ken Martin started Projects Designed and Built Inc. in 1998 out of his home with the help of a part time receptionist. Prior to that, Mr. Martin was working for a Toledo-based distributor selling industrial power transmission components, and, it was there he came up with the idea of starting the business. The idea came from an emerging trend he noticed while working with some of his large customers. Many of them began downsizing their engineering departments, outsourcing the design and build of new equipment and ultimately doing less ‘in house’ designing. That was the opportunity and the motivation for him to begin to design and build machinery that ultimately led to the business as it is today. It has been almost 20 years now and PD&B continues to be a trusted and reliable resource for their customers around the world. In a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning, Children’s Discovery Center reopened its downtown Toledo Center. The energy of Toledo’s downtown revitalization has inspired the renovation.
Open House Dates: Tuesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children’s Discovery Center has been serving the greater Toledo Community since 1982 by providing early education and childcare. Their award-winning philosophy —which includes STEAM and Reggio Emilia inspired education— has been nationally recognized. “We are delighted to present the new downtown Children’s Discovery Center to the community,” stated CEO Lois Rosenberry. “Our centers are unique and provide children with award-winning educational programs and parents with the peace of mind that their children are being cared for in a loving and stimulating environment.” We are pleased that after the region’s elected leaders considered the various proposals before them that the effort to create the Toledo Area Water Authority (TAWA) is moving ahead. It was agreed by all that the creation of a 6119 (TAWA) was the best path forward. We expect Toledo City Council to support this proposal that will be in the best interest of both residents of the City of Toledo and our region as a whole. The Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce will continue to advocate for a solution that benefits the entire region.

The whistle is remembered by many throughout Rossford, as it was blown at the Ford Plate Glass Company factory to signal shift change and the occasional accident or fire. IPS recently renovated and moved into the historical Ford Club building that was built in 1917. The building is recognized as an anchor building in downtown Rossford. The building, which will be open to the public for an open house in June, is designed in a way that supports the forward looking vision of IPS, while giving nods to tradition and history throughout. The whistle will be permanently enshrined in the lobby of the building, along with other artifacts and historical photos of the space. ![]() Wyse Coaching is a coaching organization focused on maximizing business opportunities and leadership development. Although the company was officially founded in 2017, Andre Mello, Wyse Coaching’s founder and principal, has been applying coaching techniques to his leadership teams for over a decade. Andre, a 17 year Marketing Industry veteran, decided to start Wyse Coaching as a way to partner with people who are looking to do great things. Doing so allowed him to focus 100% on the development of his clients, instead of having to also juggle business priorities of organizations he was a part of. Being a Business Coach allowed him to build strong relationships within the community, while enabling him to live vicariously through his clients’ successes. |
